A few days before graduation, after months of waiting, I was officially offered the Student Life Coordinator position in New Zealand. Even though I had never been a resident advisor or teaching assistant before, I didn’t hesitate to accept a job that essentially did just that for the next ten months. It was a chance to live in my home, the Old Convent, once again.
Before I left, I spent the summer working as the assistant director of my college’s day camp. I had plenty of outdoor education experience, but never within the context of a summer camp. It was a learning curve, and like much learning I first had to mess-up. By the second day of training I had both cried in front of my staff and sideswiped a tree with the camp truck.
