Those growing up in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s may remember watching the sci-fi mystery series Sapphire & Steel (1979–1982) with Joanna Lumley and David McCallum playing the title roles of two personified celestial elements that investigate various paranormal phenomena. Preceding this series with a haunting atmosphere was British author and screenwriter Nigel Kneale’s The Stone Tape that was directed by Peter Sasdy into the TV movie of the same title. Not only did this movie (aired on BBC on 1972) fascinate viewers at the time, and continues to do so, with its tightly written plot and interesting story but also offered a new theory of ghosts and hauntings.
