Years before Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) became a phenomenon in the history of horror cinema, Don Coscarelli’s indie production Phantasm (1979) fascinated horror fans with a closely similar concept – dissolving the line between reality and fantasy. Of the several notable parallels between the two movies, the main antagonist in each is an invincible killer of unknown origin that comes from another dimension and returns to nowhere after taking his prey. In both franchises, the protagonists are eventually made to thin of their stalker’s origin in the hope of stopping his rampage. In the Phantasm series, it begins in the fourth movie, Oblivion (1998).
