When the world was engulfed in the COVID-19 chaos, Russian directors Arseny Syuhin and Sergey Torchilin brought sci-fi-horror fans a movie that would pinch their adrenaline glands but also hint at something interesting and alarming in the world of real science. The Superdeep (originally titled Kolskaya sverhglubokaya) adds to the sci-fi horror cinema, and the creature horror subgenre, somewhat via bits of science and history but quite notably by reflecting vibes of the blockbuster Alien movies albeit in 180 degrees.
