Written by Michael Sloan and directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman, The Caller (1987) is a brilliant and highly engaging mystery movie that employs only two characters to execute the plot – the caller (Malcolm McDowell) and the girl (Madolyn Smith Osborne). The movie is also a great combo of a sci-fi thriller and mystery drama.
The story starts on the screen with an axe coming down onto the picture of the girl – henceforth the woman – followed by the woman exiting a shop and driving her car away from the parking lot while a man holding a payphone at a phone booth watches her.
