Don Siegel’s sci-fi/horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) gave the audiences a story that would haunt the curious minds across generations. Seven decades later, it remains one of the most paranoid storylines in sci-fi and psychological horror cinema.
For its time, Invasion of the Body Snatchers became the trailblazer of sci-fi horror movies pivoting on paranoia, a key character trait that was mainly the subject of film noir. The man (or woman) on the run and either concealing his (or her) identity or being taken for someone else was the main hook of a character for classic noir. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Siegel’s filming style for this story has a great deal of noir in it.
