By Friday I was very apprehensive, so much so that I called him back to let him know I’d meet him there. It was a shameful move, but I needed a way out if I changed my mind. Having come close to bailing on him, I went regardless. By the time I got to the café we had decided to meet at he was already sitting at the table, our coffees in hand. Upon seeing me, he gave me that broad, warm smile and waved me over.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was late.”

“You’re not.” He ushered me to sit down. “I was early. I’m embraced to admit I was a tad eager to see you today, so I got here early and got everything ready.”
