Everything seemed quite normal as I stepped out of my apartment building and pulled the glass door open. The air was brisk that morning as I ascended the curved cement pathway leading to the sidewalk. It was early - a bit after 6 am. The morning and I are not friends. As usual, I was uncomfortable. It was too early.
My nerves were on edge, and I was impatient. And the bus on Staten Island has been for some time an uncertain mode of transportation. And naturally, I felt a gnawing anxiety while waiting for the bus. When will it come? The cold of the morning did not help.
