if you asked me
to tell you a story
I would have given you the world,
or at least, my recollection of it,
at least, my
estimation of how
I could spin it
just long enough to
cause it to fall into orbit
around you

but you were always
skipping out of theatres before
you could be let down by
happy endings, you were
always starting books
you never intended to finish reading
and I was just another author
who you thought might
miss the mark
