I don’t know if 
you knew me
or if I know you
or if we only thought
we did, once

but last Christmas, 
you gave me
the first present
I never thought 
to ask for,
I never dreamed
I’d need,

and you gave it
not really knowing
what it meant
to me, to us,
to give

so someday
I hope to meet you
to know you
to show you
how important
you 
and gestures
large and small,
as icicles and enormous 
fir trees can be
when lit with 
children’s dreams
