the memory of you
was easy,
quick like your eyes
I know that I knew you
I know that you mattered
in some
unremembered way
to that part of me
that I’m just starting
to get to know

but now, now
I can’t forget you,
I can’t stop thinking about
that easy way you had
that simple gesture
of linking yourself
to me, slight as
the flick of one hand
to your temple, 
to meet a falling 
wisp before
I noticed

standing there
before me, reminding me
of us before you,
of me before this,
of who you have become 
of what either of us might have wanted, of what
