Episode Two: Being Luis
The air was thick with smoke, and tasted of grease and body odor. The heat from the sun bearing down on the single pane glass wasn’t dissuaded by the blanket covering the window, in fact, it seemed to bar it in, making the basement apartment even more confining and stuffy. Luis didn’t want to open his eyes. If he kept his eyes closed, perhaps he could pretend the world on the other side of his lids was a place that had beauty, order, and peace. The foul aroma in the air drew him back to reality; the realization that what actually lay beyond his visual barriers was chaos.
“Luis, come on! Breakfast is ready!”
