Around the bend, at the end of that road,

That life-long road,

Stands a lone tree, tall but lifeless,

Like a memory about to fade away.

When that life-long road ends,

Beyond the last house, there it stands,

A lonely tree, all branches, and no leaves,

Rot festers in its trunk, yet to earth, its roots clung.

No one cares if it’s there,

Why should they when they never pass it by?

At the end of that road, there’s nothing for them to see,

Only the whisper of the wind through empty branches,

Like a forgotten lullaby echoing in the stillness.

But around the bend, just out of the way,

A tree still stands, like a ghost of the past,

Its air heavy with the damp scent of dec...
