I'm afraid to look inside my heart,

Not wanting to discover a rock instead of a pearl.

Scared to look into the mirror,

I wonder if the smile I wear is fake or real.

Doubtful of the truths I might have to deal with,

I let my insecurities overshadow any other ability,

Unable to face the hurts of my past,

I don’t let myself consider any future possibility.

Life has never let me smile without reservation,

I have always lived in the confines of my mind,

Never able to let go of the baggage I carry,

To myself, I’m doomed to be forever unkind.
