just because you don’t understand

doesn’t mean I stand atop Babel.

my language is not garbled;

I’ve never been clearer.

poetry is saying the familiar

in a way that no one has said it before.

it is a revelation of someone’s viscera,

prophetic disembowelment not required.

it is a pit stop on this death race

(stop and read the roses for once, friend).

it makes words into

tricksters, lovers, priests, and confidants.

if you want the world in plain language,

read a fucking newspaper.
