where did they go,

the days behind?

the bygone era of

     BMX bikes at night

     fumbling lips and hands

     pumping hearts and burning lungs

     tears over being shattered

     laughing over our pop culture secret language

          where we left parents on the shores of confusion

          by speaking the mother tongue of movie quotes

those careless years

discarded a million miles ago

vanished from the rear view,

still swirling in my wake like

     fast food wrappers and paper covered in old news...
