twisted things were among my few friends,

their visages less terrifying

than the disgusting faces of

     the abusing father

     the beating brother

     the mocking bully

the creatures in the shadows

became my pretend saviors

as I imagined them tearing apart my tormentors...

     that's how I joined the monsters for good.
