we are manic fires

destined to burn low as

entropy stomps us all out

     that erasure is always in the back of our minds

          whispering of doom in a barely heard voice

               we never truly know why we’re desperate, so

                    this fear drives us to atrocity

if we’d only say “no” to that devil once in a while…
