this body is an old house

     humidity and a sore back

     have sunk deep into the beams,

     the damp swelling joints and jambs

everything creaks

when winds and circumstances blow

     years take things away:

     fewer shingles on top,

     foundations crumbling

it all strips the value and equity,

curb appeal ain't what it was,

more ghosts haunting it these days.

fortunately for me, character still counts,

and good bones that ache can still hold it all up.
