this tumbled lie

a child’s spilled blocks

a gambled house of cards

smiles served cold and warm

skin nail-scratched and rock-torn

toes in sand and laughter in burning breezes

tears over caskets and bridal first dances

this constructed truth

vows broken and oaths taken

stolen glances and smoldering leaves

kisses and biting teeth

gooseflesh that smells of sun

this beautiful misery
