She’s a bad person. She’s all alone now. She never got to say goodbye. She never would now. She’s going to hell. What a disappointment she’s been.

The thoughts slamming around between Bennett’s ears and causing her hands to tremble come fast and furious and they all have a common theme.

This is your fault. You are a bad person. You only care about yourself. The one person who took care of you is gone and you haven’t made time for her in years. So selfish. You deserve bad things.

Bennett shakes her head for a moment, blinking her eyes to clear the tears that are burning their way up from deep inside of her chest and now searing her cheeks. There is something large and hot in her throat and it suddenly feels hard to breathe.
