Bennett scans the cars approaching the curb, their wipers thumping rhythmically in a frantic attempt to clear the thick slushy snow that falls unrelentingly from the purplish gray sky.

She pulls out her phone to check the status of her Uber – still five minutes away. She thinks briefly about going back inside to wait in the warmth – but she doesn't want to bump into Collin.
