Adam watched the Lieutenant look off into the dark distance.  His voice was soft, almost yearning.

     “I have three children.  My oldest, Janelle, she’s thirteen.  Kevin is next, he’s eleven.  Jeff, my youngest, he’s nine.”

     “You must miss them very much, Sir.”

     “Yes, I do.  Indeed I do,” he said gently.

     Adam watched him quickly brush his cheek and knew a tear had run down it.  He knew it was unbecoming of an officer to cry, especially on duty, but it seemed Lieutenant Schramm didn’t care.  He felt what he felt, no matter about rules or who was around.
