Eastman’s barn.  What he saw both sickened him and made his heart almost stop.  In the corner of the barn lay a cow, its body covered with birds and bugs.  The cow was apparently dead and Adam moved closer to see.  He plowed through the hay and birds and bugs to stand by it.  He got out his knife, cut a piece of carcass and put the sample in a round container he brought.  He wiped off the knife.  Then, he walked into the house, searching for cut meat.  He went down into the cellar and found what he was looking for.  He cut a piece off the raw meat and put it into another container.
