to the bedroom door.  Adam was tearing the quilt and sheets off the bed and was thrashing them around in heated anger, in such pain, turmoil, grief.  He suddenly collapsed in a heap on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably, his whole body shaking.  Dessie went to him, got down on the floor with him, holding him, soothing him as best as she was able, talking softly to him.

     “It’ll be all right.  I know it will.  They’ll come back,” she told him gently in his ear as she tried to hold his shaking form, this shell of a broken man.  “I’m here, and I’ll always be here.  It’ll be all right.  I know it hurts, but you’ll see.  They’ll come back.”
