The horses were her only company as she drove the team home across the vast, open prairie.  The birds above did circle her head singing their songs to her, but she shooed them away, not wanting to hear their love songs right now.  They didn’t go away, still circling her head, determined to cheer her up.  She just decided to ignore them and concentrate on getting the team home.

     When she did get home, after quite a while, she put the team up in the barn and ran into the house.  Ryan and Christine tried to say something to her, but tears blinded her eyes and she quickly made her way up to her room, shut her door, and threw herself on the bed, crying.
