Adam nodded in response and listened to Mrs. Peterman’s heart, then looked into her eyes with a small light.  He opened her mouth and used the light to look into it.  He stood back and turned to Mr. Peterman.

     “Has she complained of any pain in the last day or so?” Adam asked him.

     “Stomach ache day before yesterday, but nothing today,” Mr. Peterman replied.

     “I’d like to watch her for a day or so.  Right now, I don’t know what’s wrong.”

     “Why did she collapse, Doc?  And why won’t she wake up?”  Mr. Peterman asked earnestly.

     “Exhaustion.  Any number of reasons. ...
