It's admirable to be generous but you've got to be careful about the unselfishness that you hand out. Generosity gets you everywhere in life and sometimes nowhere at all. Let's focus on the nowhere at all side of things...

     On my way home from a grocery store that I used to frequent every week, I would always drive by a man holding a sign at a busy stoplight/intersection. And it was the same sign.

“Laid off. Homeless. Anything will help.”

     He would travel up and down the street with his son, who appeared to be no more than eight or nine. The father evidently tugged the son along to use as a pretty-please prop which made their situation look ten time...
