A North Korean soldier stared me in the eyes. Good thing I didn't blow a kiss.

     We took school field trips to North Korea. Well, the border. As in, literally, the line on the ground in front of my toes. This was the Demilitarized Zone of South Korea and North Korea, and I'm on the South Korean side peering over at the North Korean soldiers standing at attention in their green uniforms. No movement, only disguised breathing and seldom blinking. They'd shoot any one of us if we were careless enough. And it didn't matter if we were children. They'd torture me or hold me for ransom if I even tripped over that line.
