Dedicated to the city of Detroit.
Yesterday we lost a legend. Being a Detroiter, the impact of Aretha Franklin’s death has hit hard. The city mourns collectively. People are embracing on the street, recalling their favorite Aretha tunes and dancing through tears together. It’s beautiful when a community can come together and lean on one another.
Why do we wait until someone’s death to do so?
Every other day in our great city, we all walk hurriedly with our heads down. We may politely smile at someone if eye contact is accidentally made, but it’s brief and forced.
Most folks don’t strike up a conversation on the bus about the city unless something tragic has happened like a death or corrupt mayor, (yeah, I’m talking about you Kwame).
