"Tell me. Who is in?"

The air was sucked out of the room. My partner, my mirror, stared back at me with no expression. And I mean no expression. Her happy features fell flat and my eyes burned to look away, to break eye contact, but I knew I wasn't allowed. My heart started to race. Have you ever made unbroken eye contact with a stranger for 5 minutes? I'll tell you. It is not comfortable.  My mind was going through a very unorganized Rolodex of jokes, compiled over the years spent writing comedies, being the goofball in the room, and having too much confidence after a single sip of vodka. 

But I wasn't here to tell jokes. Or to win over my partner. But it's all my mind wanted to do. I immediately put on a filter and began to talk...
