July 24th

Two days after we returned from our rain-soaked holiday, Hannah was invited to a sleepover with most of the girls from her class. We knew Chloe had been invited too, but Hannah was dying to go. She swore she’d stay away from Chloe.

Against my better judgment I let her go. With Cal working, Jamie and I went to the cinema and enjoyed a sci-fi movie he would have loathed.

At dinner the next evening I noticed Hannah scratching the back of her head, near the hairline. “Oh no.”

“What?”

“Is your head itchy, Hannah?”

She blushed and knew she was caught. “A bit. I need to wash my hair.”
