Jamie’s summer exams start next week. He’ll have tests in eleven subjects but if you encountered him in our house you’d think he didn’t have any tests on the horizon.

Cal gave him a serious talk a few days ago. I overhead words like responsibility, potential, motivation, and career but there was no response from Jamie. He then passed the baton to me. “You better talk to him, I’m getting nowhere”.

I sat down on Jamie’s, unmade, bed and patted the heap of dirty clothes beside me. “I can see your head isn’t in the right place for these exams, pet. What’s up?”
