They say Ireland wouldn’t have fields in the famous forty shades of green if we didn’t have rainy days, but the people who say that don’t work outside.

It might be different if I could afford high-end rain gear. My aunt Mary used to say there was no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes, but with a polytunnel to repair, a new rain-jacket was the last thing on my list.

After today and last week’s storm, I think better rain gear is now at the top of the darn list.

We all lived through the storm anyhow. A couple of people in the west had roofs taken off barns and there was a lot of damage to cars, but no serious injuries.

Cal came home grey-faced after his double shift. They’d been filling sandbags in Drogh...
