I’m writing tonight’s diary entry by candlelight.

 

The weather service had been warning of an approaching storm for the last few days. It was the tail-end of a hurricane, but their rarely cause trouble this far north so nobody, except the weather forecasters, had been worried.

 

Yesterday, however, the storm picked up speed and its path changed to bring it straight across the country. The government’s emergency committee met, public transport considered stopping and I started to get emails from both the kids’ schools telling me if the threat level reached orange they’d close.
