April Fool’s Day should be fun. Somebody always takes it too far, others who forget and are pranked, but the core idea is to have fun. This April Fool’s Day started with laughter but ended with anger.

I woke before the alarm. Cal had left much earlier for work and now he was ringing me. As a man who has been married to a “definitely not a morning person wife” for longer than we care to recall, he rarely phones me before ten a.m.

My heart pounding and my head predicting bad news, I answered his call to the sound of his laughter.

“Tell your daughter I’ll have my revenge.”

“Revenge for what?”

“The little minx...
