I keep scratching my head. Since I caught head-lice from Chloe at that birthday party I’ve been paranoid. I bought a fine tooth comb for detecting them and an electronic comb too, as a backup. Every Friday evening I comb Hannah’s hair and mine. Last Friday I was clear but she wasn’t. I am getting so sick of this. The treatments are expensive and take ages to apply. Then later you have to do it again to catch any late-hatchers or ones you missed.

The whole business leaves me itchy for days afterwards and although Cal and Jamie have dodged the wee creatures so far it makes them paranoid too. I went to kiss Cal last night and he reeled backwards in terror of infection.

“I don’t have them, Cal.”...
