The Detroit-based record label Motown is iconic; it got a unique form of soul music started, especially in the 1960s; the careers of Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, The Temptations and many more famous musical acts were launched due to 1960s Motown. Motown has influenced later Motown as well as artists outside of Detroit; the legacy of this major label will be remembered for generations to come. Though Motown's strongest point was soul, they went into other genres such as disco. However, the Motown soul sound is unique; only the finest musicians and backing vocalists played on Motown recordings.
