Folk songs have been a part of almost every culture in the world, and they all have their own unique spirit. Folk songs can say a lot about what a culture was like. Some folk songs tell stories, others are just fun. Some folk songs are for children, while others are never heard outside of the pubs. Whether they are happy or sad, humorous or serious, story-driven or nonsensical, folk music can tell us a lot about culture. American, Irish, Scottish and British folk songs seem to have a simplistic and whimsical feel to them, but then again, perhaps that's just how we as people of the western world feel; people of other cultures may say that about their own folk music as well.
