The history of radio is filled with legendary figures; Jack Benny, Wolfman Jack, Casey Kasem, Arnie "Woo-Woo Ginsberg", and Paul Harvey, just to name a few. However, one radio icon found a unique niche and ran with it, and he landed himself a nationally syndicated spot on many a classic rock-style station in the 70s, 80s and even into the 90s, and as recently as 2010 on a small number of stations. I am of course talking about Dr. Demento, a.k.a. Barrett Hansen. Since 1971, he has specialized in playing comedy/novelty records on his weekly show in California, which got syndicated nationally in 1974.
