“What exactly is happening here?” Jamison asked, noting Morales’ grim expression.

“The Traveler,” Morales answered. “We aren’t certain what it is. I believe it is a spirit connected to one of us, as it tends to show up and help us out of difficult situations.”

“I know spirits,” Jamison said. “I hate to tell you, man, but that ain’t a spirit.”

The Traveler seemed to glance up at them just after putting down another minion. It pointed left. Several yards from where they stood, the rope ladder was hanging over the side. Rennick had brought the rowboat closer.
