"Rougarou" suspect Chad Theroux has refused to cut a deal with the New Orleans District Attorney.

Everything was sterile.

The brightness of the room made it harder for Sayeva to open her eyes again once she'd closed them.

Her gaze settled on Samuel's face. She had not left his side since his admission to the hospital. The story about her being an unstable recluse had helped with that.

As it had been for the past twenty-four hours, Samuel's face remained a blanket of tense serenity. Having been placed on life support immediately upon arrival, he was as likely to already be dead as alive. Sayeva knew that. But the nurses had done their best to soften the blow as much as possible.
