nodded. He looked at each of the images for a long time, one by one, with the gaze of a man unaffected by death. Then he looked up at Jamison and said, “I’m going to reveal my claws and fangs. Please don’t take it as an imminent attack upon your person.”

“Okay,” Jamison said with all the appropriate wariness.

Morales placed his hands on the table. His fingernails grew into sharp claws, each about six inches long. "There are many different types of vampires, but I know of none who can fully shapeshift," Morales explained. "All retain a humanoid form, especially while feeding. Five claws on five digits on each hand."

Jamison glanced at the photos again. The bodies had long scratches on them, five shallow cuts that ran close together. Morales' finger...
