Winters grimaced. “Then I imagine he is not much longer in your employ.”

“That will be the case if he is randomly selected and has to take the test again,” Morrison replied. “As it happens, the results I just told you about have been lost.”

Winters nodded slowly.

“I can’t afford to lose him in the middle of two massive supernatural cases, especially when I’ve already had to recuse the other seniormost supernatural detective on the force and replace our only consultant. And I prefer not to imagine what would happen to him should the Green Box measures be passed and paranormals be required to register themselves.”
