Two cases converge as both the Searcy murders and the attempted assassination of Sayeva Reardon draw close to conclusions.

“Where’s Reardon been?” Brig Yorker asked.

“On a personal leave of absence,” Isabella replied. She declined to express the permanence of that leave.

“Right,” Brig grunted. The bounty hunter had set himself up a base of operations among the NOSPN staff, at no one’s invitation. No one had called him out on it, for their own reasons. “To be expected.”

Isabella turned a page in her notebook.
