Samuel turned left and Sayeva went right.

“This is the portal the poltergeists were using,” Winters said. “I was right. In this room, with the windows set up just so, the sunlight was weakening it. I can close it now.”

“Do so,” Samuel said.

Winters winged a slight gesture at the portal, and it folded in on itself. “You and I should have a chat, Sergeant.”

“About what?” Samuel asked.

“About how you were able to banish a poltergeist when even Jamison, with my help, was struggling.”

Samuel shrugged. “I don’t know what happened. I wasn’t paying attention.”

Winters raised an eyebrow. “Really?”

“This must be what the ghosts were here to protect,” Sayeva said...
