Delmedigo turned to Sayeva and smiled. "I healed him. That's my role."

She narrowed her eyes. "And what else?"

"Nothing else. He will recover well and quickly. Not perfectly--he is a suspicious man and a miracle would have been an obvious signal to him."

"A signal of what?" Sayeva asked.

"His indebtedness." Delmedigo pursed his lips. "His line had already incurred enough of it. He now owes us a favor. A significant one. You will know it when we come to collect it."
