sank her teeth into its neck, severing flesh and muscle and crushing through bone. She turned her head and growled at her confused assailants. They had planned on attacking a woman, not a hyena.
Then, as one, most of them descended upon her, their claws cutting deep into her skin. She dodged around them, biting and tearing at them where she could on her way to the corps. Shots rang out; she glanced in that direction for a moment to find Detective Athos shooting at three vampires who had singled him out. The bullets hit them but had absolutely no effect. The three vampires closed in on him, and one reached a clawed hand out to wrap around his neck. Seeing Sayeva’s hesitation, he shouted at the hyena, “Keep going!”
