F-150 was parked on the side of the county road, all lights turned off. It was our attempt at stealth. To our left was a beautiful green cow pasture. To our right was a large grove of trees, a miniature forest. Cut into the banks of both areas was Bell Creek, named after Dr. Bell, an early pioneer to Nebraska, and an all-around good guy. That’s what I’ve heard. Although my sense of sight was borderline disabled, due to the absolute blackness of night, my sense of sound was spectacular.

            When one sense becomes impaired, your other four become heightened, in most cases. There’s scientific data to back me up on this, so you’re welcome. I could hear everything: lightning bugs, Bell Creek, herself, and quite a few sleepy cows. It was euphoric.
