My theory is that the limbic system is involved when the shift occurs between the Sensory Reality, which is probably controlled by the left hemisphere, and the Mythic Reality, which is probably controlled by the right hemisphere. Not only are emotions allowed full sway, but the pleasure centers of the brain are slightly stimulated, causing a sense of joy, even euphoria. If my assumption is correct, then the association with Nature Spirits is beneficial. Not just because the shift feels good but because after it is over, the sensation of well-being and alertness lasts for hours. One does not get as physically tired as in normal reality, nor is there a feeling of mental saturation and exhaustion typical after a long period of intellectual work.
